Remote Control Tricycle

Developing a reliable heavy duty remote control tricycle was critical and very important to the development and success of this business.  There are a couple of companies that offer a trike with a riding character.  Having owned one of those many years ago I can tell you that they leave much to be desired.   It took several months and lots of mistakes to come up with the right combination of motors, speed controllers, tricycle, and radios to achieve our goal.  The “pick-up” or “wagon” kind of evolved by accident, and turned out be a HOME RUN!   We were trying figure out how to house the electronics and the pick-up style evolved from that need.  Adding to the sign in the back of wagon creates an entire new window of advertising opportunities.

The magic of the R/C Trike is that it makes any character come alive by virtue of the tricycle movement.  The trike is a stand alone unit and can be operated without a character added.   The movement is very precise and can be operated indoor or outdoors on a variety of surfaces.   There are many ideas that could be developed around the concept of a remote control tricycle.  A very large goofy looking light weight character could be added as a parade rider.

Early tricycles were too light duty. The current model is heavy duty and can withstand heavy duty use.  We have two types of running gears, both built around the same frame. One is a belt drive motor with steering servo housed at the fork.  The other is a chain drive motor with steering handled by cables and servos near the seat or in the wagon.  Both serve the purpose and are reliable.  The top of the line radio in some units is a Spectrum which works very efficiently. Most radios and receivers will do the trick. Depending on use, tricycles can run 2-3 hours on a battery charge.  We use a sealed lead acid inexpensive to buy and maintain.

Expansion Possibilities

Using experience from R/C tricycles one can remote control all kinds of vehicles. High end classic car replicas is one example. Custom build opportunities are plentiful.
